About Us

Who we are, what we believe and how we are governed.

Who we are

Qamar Al-Salam Organization for Sustainable Development is a Sudanese, women-led, non-governmental and non-profit organisation based in Port Sudan. We work in conflict-affected and marginalised areas with a special focus on women, young people and vulnerable groups, from emergency relief for families displaced by war to the long work of rights, justice and dialogue.

Since the war began in April 2023, the needs of displaced families have shaped our work. We respond where people have fled to, and we keep working for the rights, justice and dialogue that lasting peace depends on.

Our vision

A future where peace, equality and resilience thrive in conflict-affected and marginalised areas, especially for women, young people and vulnerable populations.

Our mission

To build a society rooted in rights and citizenship by fostering civil action that achieves society's highest aspirations.

Our strategic goals

  • Empower women

Support and empower women, advocate for their rights and increase their participation in decision-making, especially displaced and refugee women.

  • Advance justice and democracy

Spread and uphold the principles of justice, democracy and the rule of law.

  • Foster dialogue and connection

Give refugee and displaced women safe spaces to talk, share experiences and build connections with each other and with their host communities.

  • Respond to humanitarian need

Bring food, relief and dignity to families displaced by war, in the places they have fled to.

Set out in the charter of our board.

  • Integrity and honesty

We use our resources and our position only for the purposes we exist for, and we declare and manage any conflict of interest.
